stainless steel alms bowl
|
The alms bowl is one of the requisites for a bhikkhu or bhikkhuni and is powerful symbol of renunciation and the goal of seeking liberation. The sight of a sangha member standing in noble silence with the alms bowl in open acceptance of alms is an inspiring sight and is still a common sight in many countries.
During their almsround (pindacara), food is collected in the bowl and the bowl itself is carried in a bag for carrying convenience. The bowl is used primarily for food collection though it can be used for storing possessions as well. Money, however, is not an acceptable offering for the alms bowl. The alms bowl comes with a rattan stand, cover, a cloth carrying bag and a carrying strap.
